I believe too many people go through life chasing jobs.A job is something that simply pays the bills. There is a myth that needs to be busted.Go to school, get a degree or skill and find a job.I have heard several acronyms for JOB. Just Over Broke. Jump Outta Bed.What is the difference between a JOB and WORK?Work is something you do that is rewarding. Something you truly enjoy and look forward to accomplishing.Your passion!Work leaves you with a higher sense of accomplishment and achievement. It puts a smile on your face and warms your heart. It is gratification. The challenge is to monetize your passions and avoid jobs.
Flying the F-15 was work and not a job.It was not about paying the bills. My college degree did not teach me how to be an aviator. It was about optimizing every ounce of ability.Zig Ziglar said, Success is the maximum utilization of the ability that you have.I found success employing the F-15.Notice I did not say flying the F-15.Sure there was a stick and rudder component, but the true gratification was through the mission.Maybe that is why a little voice inside of me said stay away from a commercial airline career. In my view, I would have taken a step backwards by leaving work and landing a job.
The second chapter in my life led me to the corporate world. As one could imagine that has any affinity for aviation, flying the F-15 registers extremely high on the “fun meter”.However, there was a void operating in an environment that was not fiscally responsible. I can remember flying hours “just to use them”.I can remember spending money just to spend it due to a flawed budgeting concept of “use it or lose it” that is common in government business entities.I wanted to try Zig’s success philosophy in an environment where profit was king.I learned everything I could to quickly master a new industry that I entered with virtually no experience.I was on a learning journey that rewarded handsomely for those that exceeded.Driving top line sales while minimizing expenses was the new mantra.I was able to take one of the worst performing groups and develop a winning team that was recognized as best in the company. I watched individuals gain confidence and perform at a level most thought was unattainable. It was gratifying work. Not a job. About seven years into this journey I gave into an insatiable desire to get back into the cockpit.I decided to buy an amphibian airplane so that I could enjoy flying from our Virginia primary residence to our North Carolina lake home. This was my first exposure into the wonderful world of general aviation. The “bug smashers” that I once loathed flying the F-15 at 480 knots GS on a low level military route had now become part of my new found passion.
The next chapter of my life began when I decided to plot my escape from corporate America. How do you make money in General Aviation?I looked at FBOs, flight schools, charters, aircraft sales and about everything else imaginable. The challenge was to monetize my passion – flying; while not creating a job. What I found was that I enjoyed flying on my terms and not out of necessity.I was both the owner and the customer at the same time.It created an interesting business model. Take money out of left pocket and put it in the right pocket. There was no top-line sales growth and expenses were high. Then my wife stumbled onto a part-time home based business that was a cash cow.It was like minting money and rapidly expanding. No matter how hard we tried to keep the business local it was viral and expanding across the country.Suddenly, my business model now had a wonderful infusion of cash and a travel option. It was the missing piece of my puzzle. It funded my passion while creating a business need at the same time.MonaVie is a nutritional beverage distributorship that has allowed me to retire 15 years earlier than I thought possible.Feel free to learn more about this incredible opportunity at www.mymonavie.com/retireerly.Or simply listen to 5 aviators discuss the opportunity on a recorded conference call.(218) 339-4699 Access code is 692756#
My most recent trip to support our MonaVie business was to Vandalia, OH.I get to fly my own plane and associate with wonderful people that see the glass half full in arguably one of the toughest economies any of us has experienced. The flight to Vandalia was exceptional with no headwinds westbound and a great tailwind back home. What’s remarkable about the trip to Ohio is that I get to observe the mountain scenery over the Blue Ridge Parkway, valleys, majestic Ohio River and the farmlands all in one short flight.Even more gratifying is that there is no direct commercial air option and the trip would be a struggle with connections and cost.I am my own boss and get compensated very well.
I challenge you to pursue your passions and immerse yourself in work rather than a job.The answers are not always obvious.I can assure you that a nutritional beverage was not on my radar 2 years ago.Life is more about the journey than the destination.Remember what Zig Ziglar said – Success is the maximum utilization of the ability you have. For all the engineers and analytical types, here’s my formula.S = P * E. (Success = Passion x Excellence)

[Direct Selling News]-February 2009-Direct Selling News featured MonaVie in its February 2009 edition, and shared keys to MonaVie’s success in the article “Combining Heart with Health—MonaVie.” Noting MonaVie’s scientifically based products, expanding international opportunity, and commitment to the MORE Project, Direct Selling News said it is “no wonder 4-year-old MonaVie can already boast more than $1 billion in cumulative sales during its short lifetime.”

However, occassionally, I come across something that makes me smile and remember the good old days. The office view from the F-15 cockpit was extraordinary. One of the fun missions was stadium flyovers. This short video clip captures the audience impact, sense of patriotism, planning and execution. Enjoy!
So you think you want to start a home business? Let’s assume you’ve already decided you have what it takes to run a business from the home-front. Much different than going to a sanctuary where work is actually condoned. For more on this visit Kristie T’s blog, it’s great!
How do you sort through the din of opportunities in the sea of success? My recommendation is an objective approach to the whole package. That requires an honest assessment on FIVE fronts.
Product
Timing
Company
Compensation
Cause
PRODUCT– Is the product differentiated in the market place? What makes it unique? Do people need it or simply want it? Are you passionate about it ? In other words — would you recommend if there was no financial incentive? Competitors? Both traditional retailing or MLM.
TIMING – This is the secret sauce! You want to be positioned just before everyone (customers and distributors) figure out this is the thing to do. Too early and there is no customer acceptance. Too late and the effort increases exponentially to squeeze out profits. Hint — follow the baby boomers! That demographic has driven economic trends from disposable diapers to Wellness. Will baby boomers need your product?
COMPANY– Two things kill companies. First is obvious — insufficient sales. The second is equally as deadly — greed or growing too fast. Who is making the decisions and what is their track record? Are they committed or have a track record of starting off with a bang and moving to something else after the lights go down? Are you their midlife crisis experiment? Have they demonstrated a long history of success in other similar endeavors? $50 million annual sales is a great number to know. Only 75 start-ups in the home based business industry have made it past this milestone. Another good litmus test is 18-24 months. Most companies emplode around this point. Many reasons but it’s all in the balance of how well they manage hiring, legal, sourcing, distribution, expenses and distributor relations.
COMPENSATION — Is anybody making money at this yet? Is the comp plan fair? In today’s environment I would steer towards a binary plan that pays unlimited levels. The team volume approach and leverage you gain is very powerful. Validate the company caps certain pay streams at reasonable levels. For example, $10,000 per week on commissions is a good threshold. Clearly the company will offer other income streams for those that excel. Is it balanced? Is there enough up front bonus money for the distributor just getting started? Look for a plan that allows you to break even by creating a team of 4-6.
CAUSE — What is the pulse of the company leadership? Is it greed motivated? Is there a credible philanthropic component of the company. What is their campaign? Simply to be the best? Are they doing things right or are they doing the right thing?
Never underestimate the power of online social networking, especially Twitter.
